DIABETES EPIDEMIC

India is facing a global diabetes epidemic with second-highest and most diverse populations living with diabetes. The Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs) vision envisages a comprehensive approach i.e. preventive, curative and rehabilitative services to tackle NCDs. Diabetes is a group of metabolic disorders characterized by high blood sugar levels over a long period. The WHO has identified that non-communicable diseases (NCD) are an important global health hazard and diabetes is one of the four main NCD which immediately demands global attention.

DIABETES DAY AWARDS

On World Diabetes Day, with an objective to discuss best practices on Diabetes Management and to recognize the highly commendable efforts of various stakeholders, organized a Conference-cum-Awards on Diabetes Awareness, Prevention & Wellness Program on Thursday, 14th November 2019, at Hotel Royal Plaza, New Delhi.

Dr Mohan’s Diabetes Specialities won the Best NGO/Volunteer organization for Diabetes Outreach Programs for their exemplary outreach programs and social awareness initiatives.

Dr. Mohan’s Diabetes Specialities Clinics, now spanning 50 centres in 32 cities and 9 states conducts regular screening camps for Diabetes at Public places, Corporates, Educational institutions, Banks, Associations, Clubs etc. In the year 2018-19 alone, 4,76,661 patients have been reached thorough 2768 camps and thereafter counselled by dieticians and diabetes educators on prevention, dietary choices and fitness.  We also regularly conduct awareness programs along with dietitians, fitness experts, psychologists, ophthalmologists, optometrists and doctors at workplaces as well as public gatherings like exhibitions, melas etc. In 2018-19 more than 400 such talks have been delivered. Rural screening and treatment camps have been conducted and local health providers trained to advise the villages on the right food choices. Through the screening work done for research of the spread of the disease in India, 1,24,000 diabetic patients have been screened. 200 pregnant women are under monitoring for diet and diabetes. 40 wards have been screened for diabetes and cardiovascular diseases by the team.
